This post is part of our RoboForm 8 Feature Highlight series.

While sharing passwords with others is generally not recommended, we do realize scenarios arise where Logins and other RoboForm data will need to be shared between multiple people. For example, a household Netflix or Amazon password, a family wifi password, or garage door access code.

If and when you need to share specific passwords, it is important that you do so in a secure fashion, ensuring only the selected trusted contacts actually obtain access.

RoboForm’s Secure Sharing feature can help. Secure Sharing provides a robust and more secure way of sharing select RoboForm data—items and folders—without sharing your Master Password with others. Note that the business version also has a group sharing feature.

  • To share files, simply right click on the file you want to share within RoboForm and select “Sharing.” Provide the email address of the person you wish to share with. Once they accept the file sharing invitation, they will receive view access for that particular file or files.

  • To share folders, select “More” then “Create Shared Folder” at the top of the RoboForm Editor. Provide your intended recipient’s email address and permission level (limited, regular or manager). As with file sharing, recipients will be asked to accept the folder before receiving access to the folder based on your permissions.

Updates to individual files and folders are automatically synced to all recipients and access for both file and folder sharing can be revoked at any time. All sharing is based on public-private key exchange and data is encrypted end-to-end. All decryption occurs locally.

Sharing is caring—when done securely. If you really need to share logins and other online data with others, take the proper precautions to protect yourself along the way.
